Kelly Marie Schaefer teaches Costume Design and Acting courses at Iowa State University. She holds an MFA in Theatre from Western Illinois University with a double emphasis in Acting and Costume Design. She also holds a BFA in Musical Theatre Performance from Roosevelt University. Previously she taught costuming as well as designed the costumes for the mainstage season at Arkansas State University. A few favorites she designed while working at ASU were Anything Goes, The Boys from Syracuse, The Elephant Man, The Beaux’ Stratagem and Twelfth Night. During the summers in Arkansas she was delighted to design for ASU’s Summer Children’s Theatre season which included favorites such as Nick Tickle: Fairy Tale Detective, Sleeping Beauty, The Elves and the Shoemaker, and The Big Bad Wolf. She has also had the opportunity to design Measure for Measure at Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, Massachusetts, as well as work as a draper in their shop. She has also had the pleasure of working in the shops of The Metropolitan Opera in New York City, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre and The Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago. Some of Kelly’s favorite acting roles include Lady Bracknell in The Importance of being Earnest, Miss Hannigan in Annie, and Adrianna in A Comedy of Errors.
